Join Habitat for Humanity and STCU in breaking down barriers and building homes during Women Build 2025

[Spokane, WA]: — (March 19, 2025) — Women Build is more than a volunteer event—it’s a movement to ensure every woman has the tools, knowledge, and support to create lasting change in her home and community. Habitat for Humanity-Spokane’s Women Build program is designed to empower women through hands-on construction experience, breaking down gender barriers in the homebuilding industry while addressing the urgent need for affordable housing.

From March 19-22, 2025, volunteers will come together to help build safe, stable homes for modest-income families in Spokane County. Women Build provides an opportunity for women—and men—to learn valuable construction skills, work alongside future Habitat homeowners, and take direct action against the housing crisis. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to make a difference!

“Supporting Women Build celebrates our predecessors’ work in fighting for gender equality. It also reminds us that persistence remains our most powerful tool when advocating for a future worthy of our sisters, daughters, and granddaughters.” — Michelle Girardot, CEO of Habitat for Humanity-Spokane

For over 20 years, Women Build has championed gender equity in homeownership, recognizing that women—especially those in low- to moderate-income households—face unique challenges when securing safe and affordable housing. Women still encounter higher barriers to homeownership, such as limited access to credit and home loans. In Washington State, 29.5% of single-parent households led by women live below the poverty line, and single mothers lead 60% of Habitat-Spokane’s homeownership program families.

Women Build is about more than just building homes—it’s about creating pathways for women to thrive in homeownership while breaking down systemic barriers to equity.

“By combining our networks, ideas, and efforts, we share in the good work of Habitat for Humanity in Spokane. Rallying together, we raise awareness for the unique challenges that women face in homeownership.” — Jessica Golladay, VP of Consumer Underwriting at STCU and Chair of Habitat-Spokane’s Women Build Steering Committee

STCU: A Committed Partner in Women Build
As the 2025 Presenting Sponsor, STCU plays a critical role in making Women Build possible. Their ongoing support helps raise awareness about the unique challenges women face in homeownership and ensures that more modest-income families can achieve stability through affordable housing.

Habitat-Spokane is deeply grateful for STCU’s leadership in this effort. Their commitment to strengthening communities through financial education and homeownership opportunities aligns with Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a safe and affordable place to live.

Women Build 2025: The Final Homes at Hope Meadows
This year’s Women Build will take place at Hope Meadows, a community that has provided homeownership opportunities to over 70 families. Volunteers will be helping complete the final homes in this long-standing development, marking an important milestone in Habitat-Spokane’s mission to provide affordable housing throughout Spokane County.

In addition to volunteering, Habitat-Spokane encourages participants to make a donation in honor of a woman who has inspired them. These contributions help more modest-income families access homeownership and financial stability.
