Meer and Mahsumeh

Dedication Ceremony begins at noon

Deer Park, Wash. – On Friday, Habitat for Humanity-Spokane’s Blitz Build will end with a home dedication ceremony for two partner families. Each will receive the keys to their brand new homes in the organization’s Hope Meadows development in Deer Park.

These Habitat homebuyers, Meer and Mahsumeh, will soon pay an affordable mortgage of no more than 30% of their income because of the generous support of volunteers and donors.

“I’ve never had my own home before,” said Meer. “I’ve never been able to afford it, and I’m really looking forward to having my own home in a safe community.”

Everyone needs a foundation to build a future.

Mahsumeh, the second homebuyer receiving her keys this Friday, is looking forward to having a quiet and safe place to raise her son. She is grateful her new affordable home will provide a foundation and stability where her son can grow and thrive.

These homes are built by love,” Mahsumeh said. “I so appreciate those who give—those who volunteer. It means a lot to us.

Acceptance into the homeownership program is based on need, ability to pay and willingness to partner.

Meer and Mahsumeh, like all Habitat homebuyers, were in need of a better place to live, both paying more than 30% of their income on sub-standard housing. Each partnered with Habitat to complete the 500 required hours of sweat equity, took homebuyer readiness courses, and saved $4,000 toward closing costs. Moving into a Habitat home means they will achieve the stability and independence they need to focus on forward-thinking choices.

A Habitat home is a building block for a better future for individuals and families who partner with us,” said Michelle Girardot, CEO for Habitat for Humanity-Spokane. “On dedication day, we get to celebrate the hard work our partner families have put into the program, while thanking the volunteers and donors who give generously in support of our mission.”

Since our founding in 1987, Habitat-Spokane has helped people living in poor conditions build or improve places to call home. Today, more than 314 families are experiencing stability that leads to better, affordable living conditions, improved health, stronger childhood development, better educational outcomes and increased financial independence.

The dedication ceremony begins at 12:00 PM Friday, June 14 at 1000 and 1004 South Margaret Street in Deer Park, WA. The two Habitat homes will be blessed by Habitat-Spokane donors and volunteers. Home dedications are open to the public and will include remarks by CEO Michelle Girardot, and comments from each new Habitat homeowner.
