Women Build volunteer

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is engaging women throughout the community to work together to build Habitat homes during their Women Build event March 6-9. This years’ event coincides with International Women’s day Friday, March 8, and Habitat-Spokane anticipates the number of volunteers to double from last years’ event. In total, they anticipate more than 100 women will participate.

“We are excited to partner with women from all over our community to help build safe, stable and affordable homes,” said Michelle Girardot, CEO of Habitat for Humanity-Spokane. “Every year we look forward to seeing women come together from all over to not only build homes, but also build each other up. Seeing a community of empowered women helping families in need of a hand up… I can’t think of a better way to celebrate International Women’s Day.”

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program recruits, educates and inspires women to build, and advocate for decent and affordable houses in their communities.

“What I love about Habitat is that they give a hand up, not a hand out,” said long-time volunteer Patti. “When you volunteer, you get to see how hard future homeowners work. You get to work alongside them to help build their home.”

Families and individuals in need of a safe and affordable place to call home partner with Habitat for Humanity. They complete hundreds of hours of sweat equity building their own home and the homes of their neighbors. They take financial workshops and classes and then purchase their home and pay an affordable mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane Women Build 2019 kicks off on Wednesday, March 6 at 8:30 AM and will end Saturday, March 9 at 4:30 PM.

Volunteers will work on two homes in the Hope Meadows community, located in Deer Park, WA. Projects will include interior insulation and drywall installation. These homes will be finished and dedicated for two families come June.

Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves.
