[Spokane, WA] On Thursday, December 7th, at 12:00 PM, Habitat for Humanity-Spokane will welcome a family to their newly rehabilitated home in the Chief Garry Park neighborhood, just in time for the holidays.

The featured home, originally built and sold by Habitat-Spokane in 2002, has become a symbol of a lasting commitment to providing safe, decent, and affordable homeownership solutions to families in Spokane County. This heartwarming sale, 21 years after the home’s initial construction, underscores the organization’s dedication to creating lasting and positive impacts within the community.

Habitat for Humanity-Spokane is proud to continue its affordable housing mission by ensuring that this home remains within the Homeownership Program, fostering a cycle of support that spans generations. By selling the home to another hardworking family in the program, the organization provides permanent affordability while building a foundation for a brighter future.

This home dedication will honor former first lady Rosalynn Carter, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at her home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 96, with family by her side. The former U.S. first lady was a champion and strong voice for affordable, decent housing for all. For more than three decades, she and President Jimmy Carter donated their time and leadership to Habitat each year to build and improve homes worldwide. President and Mrs. Carter worked alongside more than 104,000 volunteers across the U.S. and 14 countries to build, renovate, and repair 4,390 Habitat homes.

The community is invited to join the celebration of Rosalynn Carter’s life while warmly welcoming the new homeowners at this joyous home dedication event. Habitat for Humanity-Spokane will bless the home alongside volunteers, donors, community partners, and neighbors. The event is an opportunity for Spokane to come together, share in the joy of giving, and witness the positive impact of Habitat for Humanity’s work.

“We are thrilled to continue our legacy of providing affordable housing solutions to families in Spokane,” said Michelle Girardot, Habitat for Humanity-Spokane’s CEO. “This sale represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication from the incredible families we serve. We invite the community to celebrate this special moment and welcome the new homeowners to their safe, decent, and affordable Habitat home.”
