Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the associated rainfall have caused unprecedented severe flooding, forcing emergency evacuations and damaging thousands of homes and communities. We are sending our prayers to all those affected and wondering how we can help. Right now disaster relief agencies are working to provide basics of food, temporary housing and clothing. Habitat for Humanity International is planning now for their important role ahead. Once emergency disaster efforts are over, rebuilding homes will be priority #1.

It is too soon to send volunteers, though we expect the need to be great in the months and even years ahead. If you are interested in volunteering or donating to help in the recovery process, we are gathering names and contributions from interested individuals. For volunteers, we will take names and keep you posted on volunteer opportunities as they become available, including sending groups from Spokane to the disaster zone when the time is appropriate. Non-local volunteers are not invited to the affected areas yet. E-mail us to add your name to a list to go to the recovery area at volunteercoordinator@habitat-spokane.org.
