Habitat for Humanity-Spokane has been “Blitz Building” for 20 consecutive years.  Every year Blitz Build attracts more than 1,000 volunteers throughout the build process as well as high media attention: daily coverage through television, social media, radio, and newspaper stories. An event unique to Spokane, Blitz Build offers camaraderie as professional builders, sponsor groups and volunteers work side-by-side with Habitat families to build safe, healthy, and affordable homes and communities.

Habitat-Spokane has seen a 400% increase in homeownership applications since last year – and that number is only expected to rise.

Blitz Build MUST go on!

Safety is our #1 Priority:

Safety plans implemented to keep groups BELOW 5 volunteers at a time!

Blitz Build, our annual two-week accelerated build event, was originally scheduled for the beginning of June in West Central but will now take place August 3-14 in Hope Meadows – Habitat’s vibrant housing community in Deer Park, WA. Habitat-Spokane must continue building to meet the growing need of families applying for affordable homeownership. This means applying safety measures, above and beyond what is typical, to ensure all of our families, sponsors, volunteers, donors, and employees are SAFE during this event:

  • Pre-registration – All volunteers are required to pre-register online (no day of volunteers will be accepted) in order to avoid handling pens and paperwork pre-shift.
  • Virtual Safety Talk and Orientation – Everyone that has pre-registered will be sent the Safety Talk and Orientation video the day before their shift. We are urging everyone to watch this before arrival as we will NOT be doing this talk on-site in order to avoid a group gathering.
  • Drive-Thru Check-In – Participants will drive up to our check-in tent, get their temperature taken by masked and gloved employees, then will be handed their t-shirt, hard hat, and Habitat face mask. Everyone is required to have their face mask on before walking up to the job site.
  • All Shifts Outside – All volunteers will be working together outside.
  • All Tools Disinfected Between Shifts – There will be volunteers designated to cleaning and disinfecting all tools between shifts. Everyone will be assigned their own tools during their shift and will not be sharing them with anyone else. Safety goggles and hard hats will be thoroughly disinfected with time to dry between shifts.
  • FOUR Handwashing Stations On-Site – Soap and water hand washing stations will be set up by the job site, the porta-potties, and the food area. Hand sanitizer will also be present but the soap and water method will be encouraged. Porta-potties will be sanitized regularly.

We need rockstar volunteers (YOU!) now more than EVER before.

Blitz Build relies heavily on corporations bringing their teams to help us build every year. Due to the Coronavirus, many companies have had to cancel their team building events leaving us heavily understaffed. We need our individual volunteers to step in and take the lead and we KNOW that you can do it!

This accelerated build means you’ll be directly helping a family move into their home before the end of this year. There are multiple days and times available and absolutely NO EXPERIENCE is necessary to help us build homes! Learn a new skill, grab a bunch of friends and do something you’ve never done before, or bring your skills with you if you have them!
